seperation and divorce

I was married in South Carolina, I now reside in N.J. I would like to get a divorce. Do I have to go through a legal separation first? Do I have to go back to South Carolina to get divorced?

Provided that you have resided at least for one consecutive year in the state of New Jersey prior to filing with the Court, you may obtain your divorce here in New Jersey.
