Legal Question in Insurance Law in New Jersey

Auto Accident without Insurance

I was in an accident and was hit from behind. In the police report the woman admitted it was her fault and said she hit us. However, my vehicle was not insured at the time. The damages to the car are over $2,000, will I be able to get compensated for this either by her insurance company or in a lawsuit? This was a brand new vehicle 17 days old, we thought it had some sort of insurance because we gave my policy number to another car to the dealership. Also, the dealer gave us the license plates and let us leave without proving any insurance. I live in NJ.

Re: Auto Accident without Insurance

You have unfortunately caused a very substantial legal problem for yourself by not speaking to your automobile insurance agent before driving the vehicle. Your agent would have added the vehicle to your policy before the accident, and the situation would be much different.

You have some alternatives, but will need to sit down with an attorney and pursue this. You face a very serious risk at this point. I am in norther NJ and would be happy to assist you. 973 890 0400.
