Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Year end Bonus with legal strings attached

In return for a year end cash bonus, I'm required to sign a statement that I will stay with this employer for at least another 6 months. If I leave sooner,I am required to return the money. The company is in transition, with the possibility of new owners coming aboard, so I don't know what the next 6 months will bring. Is this statement legal and binding, if I do sign, and then decide to leave in a few months?

Re: Year end Bonus with legal strings attached

Yes. The conditions on the bonus are legal. There is no requirement to provide a bonus unless your employment contract contains one.
