Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Breaking a lease within 1 week

I moved in 5 days ago to an apartment for which I signed the lease in December. At the time of the signing there were numerous defects which I was told would be corrected by the time I moved in (January 15th, according to the lease) When I moved in on the 20th, the only thing that had been done was a new carpet put in. The apartment was filthy, nothing was painted, and none of the defects had been fixed. I additionally found that there were roaches in the apartment the next day. I promptly told the apartment manager, who said she would deal with it. Well, I cannot deal with roaches. I cannot sleep, and the apartment is uninhabitable. I have not even unpacked. This woman lied to me about the condition of the apartment, which has not passed inspection, and blatantly lied about the roach situation. I cannot sleep I am so fearful of these pests, and I am afraid of taking them anywhere with me. I would like to break my lease. It is in the first week. I asked to switch units and she told me none were available. I will forfeit my security deposit, but I would like to leave immediately. Do I have any recourse?
