Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I rented an apartment and later found out it was an illegal rental. The landlord still owes me money, but I have NO lease or paperwork to prove it. What can I do?

You need to be more specific about what you mean by an illegal rental and why you think the landlord owes you money.

If the apartment was an illegal apartment, then you are entitled to money from the landlord.

Six month's rent. That is a lot of money.

This will apply to you ONLY if your situation meets the conditions set out in the law.

I have represented landlords who are on the paying end of this law, for violating the statute on illegal apartments.

I do handle cases in Morris and Sussex Counties.
