Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey

Re: accident my daughter was involve in

My daughter accidently hit the back end of a car. There was no damage to his car and slight to hers. The guy jumped out of his car and was fine and refused medical. 3 weeks later he was in court when my daughter had her court for unsafe driver. he tried to sue the insurance co but could not prove injury (he had an mri) now he is suing me because my name was on registration and husband because he was the insurer for $500,000 our insurance only covers $300,000 now we have to pay for a lawyer. my daughter was 19 at the time. I find this unreasonable. What are my rights? The medical comes back as degenerative spine (he had an MRI a year prior no changes his MRI to the one after the accident) Does he have a right to sue us? and for such a large amount?

Anyone can file a lawsuit. That doesn't mean it has merit. It is unclear why you need to retain an attorney when you apparently had auto insurance. Your insurance company should be providing you with an attorney at their expense. From your description of the accident and the alleged "injuries" it appears that your coverage would be sufficient, however a full review of the plaintiff's medical records would be needed to make a definitive assessment of that fact. Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss this further.
