Parent was in accident.who's responsible?

My husband's mother was in a car accident and she passed away due to the accident.The accident was her fault and the bus that she was driving had a passenger whom passed away also..Now my question is our we responsible for this?WE received some papers stating that the parents of the individual are taking us to court?They have a long list of peolpe that they are also suing.How can we be responible for this?His mother did not have any money no estate..Just alot of bills.I don't know what really to do.We can't afford a lawyer.Please help???

1st, who owned the bus. They should have insurance and sould cover the claim. Secondly, did she live with you. If she did you should submit the clim to your insurance company. If your mother in law was working for a Bus Company, The Bus Company's insurance carrier would defend her interest (and the bus company's interest) in any case brought against her. If your mother in law lived in New Jersey there may be additional insurance coverage through her own auto insurance coverage. You should send a copy of the Summons and Complaint to all insurance companies including home and auto so that they are aware of the pending case. The insurance carrier will then advise you if they provide coverage for this type of accident. The primary coverae will be from the bus company your mother in law was employed by. In addition, the estate of your mother in law, has a workers compensation case for her work related untimely death.
