Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

We agreed to rent a house with a homeowner, signed a contract and made out banker's checks for the first month's rent, deposit and realtor fees. We had confirmed with the homeowners our willingness to accept their offer. Three days before our move, they backed out of the agreement (they had not signed the contract) leaving us scrambling to find another house. We ended up renting a house that cost us $300 more per month as we had very little time. Do we have legal recourse to recover the differential in rent?

Did your landlord ever agree to rent the place to you? you confirmed your willingness, did they ever agree?

You may have a claim for the $300 per month; I would need to sit down with you and go over it and see what your best course of action is.
