Legal Question in Social Security Law in New Jersey

Grandparents raising un-adopted grandchild.

I wanted to know if there has been a case on grandparents vs social security on getting the deceased grandfathers ss for a grandchild he has raised since birth but not adopted, and the grandchild's biological mother is living, but doesn't and never has supported the child.

In TX, we have the opportunity to assert a common law adoption, but this is a frontier state. I would be surprised if you could assert something like that in NJ. YOu might try.
