Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Allegedly leaving the scene of an accident

I was told by my township police department that I left the scene of an mva in another town. I contacted that town's police department and was old that I ''scuffed'' another vehicle and that I needed to come to they're police station with my vehicle's infor and to give a statement. Do I need to retain counsel?

You should hire an attorney because one of the penalties is the loss of your license for six months.

It must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that you knew you were involved in an accident. One criteria for determining this is the cost of repair the damage to the other car. The greater the cost of the repair the more likely it is that you knew that you were involved in an accident.

Call me if you like.

Re: Allegedly leaving the scene of an accident

Yeah, I would suggest that you do. The police are allowed to lie to you, so a scuff could really mean anything. Also, they are bringing you down to gather evidence against you, i.e. your car and your statement. My initial consultations are always free, so give me a call at 732/247/3340 and we can discuss your options. Even though its the holiday weekend, give me a call and leave a message on my voice mail. I check it rather often so I will call you within a few hours.

First of all, I would not go to the police station to give a statement - let them do their own work. Second, since you are facing a very severe mandatory penalty if you are convicted of leaving the scene of an accident, 6 months loss of your driving priveleges, I would certainly hire a lawyer if a ticket is issued against you. In addition to this you are looking at receiving two points on your license and having to pay a fine if you plead guilty or are found guilty of the leaving the scene ticket. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts in New Jersey in the past. I would like to discuss your case with you in more detail. Please contact me about this. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-
