Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

what is the law re: someone filing a false traffic complaint to get someone pulled over? Happened in New Jersey. Cop let me go, no issue, but complaint came from someone at a party I'd been at, and was called in for 'reckless driving' about 20 minutes before I even left the party. I do know who did it. Cop admitted he'd been sitting along the side of the road waiting for my particular car to come along.

So is this 'false reporting' a misdeameanor or something?

Yes, filing a false report with the police is a criminal offense, but you have to know who made the false report before criminal charges can be brought.

It is a criminal offense, but nothing apparantly happened (no summons was issued) and you do not know who was allegedly responsible for making a false claim that you were driving recklessly. you need some evidence that someone did something, otherwise there is nothing that can be done.
