Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Wrong information on traffic ticket

Is the ticket voided if the information on the ticket written is wrong? The officer who issued me a speeding ticket has provided wrong information of the license plate and have entered the license number of the car that I owned a year back. Car with that license plate number is not present. Is the ticket still valid?

Re: Wrong information on traffic ticket

Unfortunately, the answer is ususally no because the judge can allow corrections to minor items such as this as long as no new charges are alleged. In your case it is weird, however, that the wrong tag is from a car you used to own.

While I'd first discuss the facts with you to see if we can "beat" the charge, your best option may be to arrange a plea to a lesser charge or a "no-point" ticket.

I practice in Courts from Trenton area and South and would be happy to give you a free consultation/talk with you about your case if it is in an appropriate Court. I can then advise of the likely outcome and my fees.
