Change of name is accomplished by filing a Complaint in the Superior Court in the County in which your son resides. He must indicate the name he wishes to use, must advertise the filing of the Complaint and indicating the name he wants to use in an approved newspaper, and then appear before a judge to testify that the reason for the name change is not to defraud anyone (like creditors), and that the name is not being used for an illegal or unlaawful purpose (e.g., using the name Santa Claus).

A local attorney in his County should be able to assist him, as can the Court personnel. He may be able to get a name of an attorney from the local Bar Association. It is really a relatively easy procedure.

Re: how to change birth name

I am changng one ofmy client's names at the present time. The process takes a couple of weeks and preparation of a complaint and a court date.

I also suggest that you hire an attorney. The process is fairly inexpensive (I am charging my client $500-750) for the whole process.
