My wife, who passed away in 2004,was a beneficiary of the estate of a good friend of ours,am i, her husband, legally entitled to make a claim?

If your wife prececeased her friend, my hunch is that as her husband, you would not have a claim to your wife's bequest in the friend's will [however it's possible that your wife's issue [if any] might.
However, to answer your question correctly, I would need [1] a copy of the friend's will; [2] a copy of your wife's will; [3] the date your wife died; and [4] the date the friend died.
