Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

Too Broke to File?

Is there anyway that my husband and I can file bankruptcy without paying the huge fees? Our credit is bad because we lost our jobs, due to a company closing, and bad decisions before we even met. Now, we're having an immense amount of trouble finding work, because employers want to check you credit and assume you are a risk if you have bad credit. We can't even open a bank account so we can cash checks because of bad credit! [1 overdrawn account in the past]

We feel that the only way we can get anything done is to start over, but we have no clue on how to do this, since to claim you have no money to pay your debts, you have to /have/ money. Is there any way at all to file at a discounted cost?

Call the Clerk of the United States Bankruptcy Court where you live and ask him or her for the name of someone who can help you file a bankruptcy.

Re: Too Broke to File?

Yes. You can file a document asking the court to accept your CH7 petition without the 200 dolar fee. The court has such documents available, pre-printed.

Check your area for the nearest federal bankruptcy court.

good luck.
