Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

Ch 7 Marriage and Home Buying

My future spouse filed Ch 7 in NY state and was discharged in 1998. Will it negatively impact my credit rating? Should we keep seperate accounts after we are married? Would it have any negative consequences to us buying a home together? Please advise.

Re: Ch 7 Marriage and Home Buying

Congratulations on your happy event. Many happy returns!

Don't worry about the 1998 event affecting your credit, it will only show up on your spouse's credit report. However, it will affect joint purchases for which a bank loan is required; like a car or a house.

I do want to encourage you to look into how your marriage will affect your affairs together and what documents need to be adjusted to conform with your new commitments (will, insurance, insurance beneficiary, etc). You are welcome to a consultation with me for no fee at my offices at 42 West 44th Street, NY,NY. Please call for an appointment first - (646) 591-5786
