Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

Notification of end of Bankruptcy.

I have been chapter 7 bankrupt for 8 years as of 1998 (the amount in question is between $20,000-$30,000.) I was told that it would last 7-10 years. How will I be informed when I am relieved of bankrupcy? How is it determined how long my bankrupcy will last? Who decides? I have asked my original law firm about this and they have not been forthcoming with any helpful information. I am constantly requesting my TRW or filing for credit cards and nothing has changed as of yet. I am planning on buying a coop or a house in the near future, so any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

I think you misunderstand ...

You will receive no 'official' or 'formal' notice advising youthat all is forgiven (as it were) - you got the only such noticeyou'll receive akin to that when you received word that the debts had been discharged.Financial institutions are permitted to deny you credit thereafter,but Not Obliged to deny you credit. You won't know until you try ..get it? So, if you think you want to go for someting as 'big'as a house or coop, go to the 'classiest' bank you can find ..see what happens. Then, move down the line.
