Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

Asking Lawyer for Refund

Hello,

I hired a lawyer and fired him after 3mos because he was not meeting the promises he made to us. He refunded only half the money I gave him, and kept about $9,000. He did nothing for us besides show up in court 1 time. No motions were submitted by him and no agreement was signed by us with him. I don't believe the services he provided us was worth $9,000. A couple of thousand maybe. He ripped us off and when we requested more of a refund with a formal letter he sent a letter back threatened to charge us more money if we continued to pursue asking for more money. I would like to take him to court sinse he is not willing to work with us. Please Help.

Thank you

Re: Asking Lawyer for Refund

Suggest to him that if he does not provide you with an intemized list of services provided complete with a breakdown of the time spen on each task you will report him to the grievance committee and perhaps he should forward a copy of the letter to his malpractice carrier. I imagine it will get results. If it doesn't nad you have grounds, follow through.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
