Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

I was wondering if there was any expectation of privacy in a detached garage with a wide open front door. From what I have found online, all indications show that if you can be seen from the street there is no privacy expectation. I can see clearly from my yard to where the neighbors stand in their garage and constantly smoke dope. Before I contact anyone about this, or gather evidence, I want to make sure that there are no privacy issues at stake. This is in New York. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In your situation, don't worry about it. Don't investigate. Simply contact the police with the information you have and let the professionals investigate.
