This question comes up all the time. The answer depends on the agreement you have with your clients but as a general matter if you are not an employee, you retain rights in the digital files and underlying intellectual property you develop unless the contract specifically assigns the rights to the client together with the workproduct (creating a so-called "work for hire"). IP rights are separate from the physical work itself so make sure you protect yourself from future misunderstandings with the right type of written agreement.
