Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I had ACS call me today in regards to a payday loan from 2008. They stated that I owe 900 to Cash Advance Network from then (this is fraud and I am refusing to pay). They told me that they will send out my summons to appear in court and see me then. This is supposedly from 2008, they are just contacting me and taking me to court? I did not take this out. What should I do? I cannot afford a lawyer and I refuse to pay this.

First, you should check your credit report to see if this debt is on there. If so, you should write to all three credit reporting agencies disputing the debt and asking the agencies that they validate it with the creditor. If the creditor has no documentation validating the debt, then it will be removed from your credit. However, if the debt is validated, you will have no choice but to defend a lawsuit if it is commenced against you.
