Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I wasn't sure what area of law to put this . I recently found out that the village were I live has been over charging me for the electric bill . They have been reading the wrong electric meter for a very long time , up to ten years ! We are talking thousands of dollars of over payments made to them . I need / want someone to represent me because I really don't trust the village to come clean with whats really owed to me . Please help .

You might try suing them in the Village Court and if that is not feasible the Town court where the village is located. Above that is the County Court. You'd have to obtain proof from the Utility company that there was an error. Usually there is a shorter statute of limitations when it comes to suing "government" bodies, but you could try.
