Re: bad credit

First of all you should order your credit report. There is a good free brochure on this topic on the NY State Dept. of Consumer Affairs web site at

http://www.consumer.state.ny.us/pdf/unraveling_mystery_of_credit_report.pdf

You should review that and follow the information in there to review your credit report.

Also look at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for additional info. about your rights with respect to credit reports at:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/credit/rights.shtm

There are good books in the NY Public Library system about personal credit and budgeting issues. Many of the services that offer credit repairs are not very effective and you may be better off trying to do it yourself (that is what the FTC suggests).

If you have default judgments against you, depending on the amount of the judgments and your income, it may make sense to hire an attorney to seek to set aside those judgments and negotiate settlements. We represent clients in those type of matters.

Be wary of anyone who promises you a quick fix or a panacea.

The foregoing is not intended as legal advice for your specific situation and is intended as general information for readers of this website. You should consult an attorney concerning your rights with respect to the matter you have described.

Good luck,

Re: bad credit

There are ways to do this...but first and foremost...get a copy of your credit report. Without it, how do you know if there are any errors. From experience with clients, simple things on it might be fixed easily and help to improve your credit...

Good Luck
