Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Debt Verification

After disputing a debt in a timely manner, the consumer requests a verification of the alleged debt.

Does providing the consumer with various documents with amounts constitute ''verification?''

I assumed ''verification'' meant a sworn statement pertaining to the correctness of the documents.

Re: Debt Verification

Yes.

And you know what they say about "assuming."

"Verify" in this context means to show you the documents relating to the charge.

The "verification" you're thinking of, in the New York State courts, is an affidavit attesting to the truth of the statements in a pleading. It has nothing to do with your situation.
