Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York
judgement of satisfaction never filed
In 2002 a judgement was filed against me by an attorney on behalf of a dental matter. The lien (judgement) for $1700. was immediately satisfied by me. Something happened between the attorney, the court, or the county clerks office that the judgement was not listed as satisfied. In December 2005, I refinanced my house and it came up. I got the original sat of judg from the attorney and filed it myself with the county. Suffolk County will only use the current date. It will now show that I have been neglectful for the last 4 yrs with the county and my credit ratings. The retention for the standard 7 yrs negative credit will now start on this matter. This of course has affected my interest rates and reason for denial of credit. The attorney that originally filed all this against me will not help. What is my position of action?

It is the obligation og the party that filed the judgment to get you the satisfaction.
If that was the attorney on the judgment (I do not know that), then tell him that you will file a complaint for the failure to do that.
Good Luck

This is a simple problem. You can work through the credit reporting agencies to correct the data on your credit report.
If they resist, let me know and we can take it from there.
