Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I am scheduled to appear in court on Apr.5 for a self reprented non-jury debt for a Bench trial.I appeared the first time in nov.and the judge postponed until April.I am still out of work.The lawyer from Chase's debt collector called me at home yesterday.First -is this normal and should I respond to the phone call?

Yes. They may wish to resolve the matter without going to court. Be careful, though, as some unscrupulous lawyers will try to take advantage of a pro se litigant such as yourself. Make sure to get everything in writing AND signed BEFORE you sign anything. And it would be best to have an attorney review everything just to be safe.
