Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I came home to find a card in my mailbox from the local pct detective addressed to my 18 yr old son to please call Det.Smith.My son claims to have given his ID to a friend who then used it to cash in stolen jewelry. My son claims he did not know the jewelry was stolen and did not receive any money from the trade. He simply loaned his ID card. The friend was arrested and released. I have been told (but do not know if this is true) that if my son goes to the Pct he can be arrested on the spot based on what his friend may have said.

My question is how to respond to the request from the Det..Does my son respond by phone and answer questions or does he let the Det. into our home to question him with or without an attorney.

Susan

Time to contact a lawyer immediately. He should not speak to the police without one. He is facing serious charges.

Your son should NEVER talk to any law enforcement officer without an attorney present. Anything he says will be used against him. This seems to be a serious situation, therefore retain a competent criminal defense attorney ASAP.You may contact my office @7188340087.
