Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I sold a dog to someone and the check they wrote me bounced. I have tried to contact them by phone and they are not answering or returning my calls. I went to the address they have on their drivers license ( I have a photocopy of the license ) and spoke to the persons uncle. I told the uncle the situation and asked him to please have someone get in touch with me. About 30 minutes later the individual called me upset that I went to his house. He told me never to go to his house because his uncle is crazy and kills people. We then argued about the situation and he hung up on me.

Can I go to the police and file charges against him for fraud or theft? The price of the dog was over $1000 and I have all the documents of the sale and the bounced check. Just want my money or my dog back.

You may be able to press charges if you could show that he intentionally bounced the check--(ie knew there were no funds in the account and wrote it anyway). You could also sue him civilly to reclaim your property.

Good Luck
