Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Advice for Custody Please
Back in December I signed a consent of Removal for my children to be placed with a family member from my home. I since than had been in and out of court once, twice a month and still no recomendations of what I can do to get my children home with me. My lawyer is a court appointed lawyer which all she does is sit there in the room, never give me any encouraging advice and is hard to get a hold of. My children were taken from me because my ex-boyfriend was in my house after there was a order to stay out of the residence. I misunderstood the order as not being able to live there not be there all together. What advice can you give me to suggest or bring up in court when I go on April 6,2007? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
