Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Child Support

Hi I have two children that my mom has custody of. I was just in court and was order to pay back child support from 2004 to current . My mom has had custody of my kids since they where born oldest being 12 youngest being 7. I was brought to family court by social service. She has been getting social service since they were born. I dont mind paying the child support but i feel that i shouldnt have to pay back child support when i myself am on social security and am on a fixed income. that is another issue . I feel that nys is taking advantage of me since I am disabled. I asked for an attorny they denied me one and told to find one with out really knowing where to really go for legal help. I hope some one can answer this. I really feel that this is not how it should be or have been ordered thank you
