Legal Question in Family Law in New York

copy of divorce decree

My father flew to Santa Domingo in 1980 for a quick divorce. He recently passed away. My mother needs a copy of the divorce decree in order to file for social security. How does she get a copy?

Re: copy of divorce decree

If this was an ex parte divorce, it may never have been recognized in New York.

She may be entitled to more as his widow.

If you wish to discuss this with me privately, please call to schedule a consultation. I practice in NYC and Long Island.
