daughter not in school

I'am mother of a 10yrs.old & she has been with her father for the past 6yrs.We were never married.I was asked to leave house 6 yrs ago when police said best to leave now.The father of the child was living at home with his mother & brothers so the police thought it was best that i leave.I had no place to go & was unsure what to do about my daughter. I went back to my mother who was struggling & i was not working. The father of my daughter said for me to get on my feet & he would give me my daughter.The last 3 years i have been ready but the father said to wait till she finishes grammer school with her friends.The father has now taken her out of the school before finishing and moved 3 hrs. away.The fathers name is not on birth cert.& can not register her & wants me to sign over custody.I want my child to be with me & would like to know where i can go for help. can not afford the fees ive been asked by lawyers.Can i go to the police & take my daughter home register her in school?My daughter was also told she was coming to live with me but now father has told her he changed his mind.Daughter used to stay with me from fri.-mon. and sum. vac.Since he moved i have not seen my daughter(3 wks.)

In the absence of a previous court order, you have the right to enroll your daughter in a closer school.

I need more specific information to properly advise you, but if you are not being permitted to see your daughter, it sounds like you have little to lose by bringing this to court. Although the father has not legally established his paternity, he may seek to do so shortly. You need to confer with an attorney as soon as possible. Feel free to call me at 212-367-9167.
