Legal Question in Family Law in New York

falsely telling the mother a child-support hearing was cancelled.

What do you call this offense. Misconduct?

Lawyer for ex-husband writes custodial mother that hearing for child suppot has been adjourned and in letter states court clerk has adjourned hearing for another day. Turns out judge held hearing as scheduled and mother, not trusting her ex-husband's lawyer, attended anyway. But lawyer's tactic is distressing. What is the court remedy here. And is this misconduct, unethical conduct or what?
