laws on minors

my 16 yr old daughters boyfriend just gave her an engagement ring he is 20 yr old. my husband is furious and wants to do something. i do not. is there anything he can legally do??

For a minor to be married under the age of 18, consent is needed from the parents. NY DRL section 18. Therefore, you may not consent to the marriage until such time as the child is 18.

First, a minor (any person wishing to be married in the State of New York under the age of 18) requires parental permission.

Second, you may want to determine if your daughter has been having relations with this person since a person under the age of 17 is incapable of giving consent in this situation as well. That is statutory rape.
