Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I was recently involved in a custody case with my sons long lost father. At the start of the case, before I had an attorney, the judge disclosed that his attorney had represented the judge in a previous case and asked if anyone was opposed to her hearing the case. I was not aware @ the time that I should have objected. As the case went on, it was obvious that the judge was favoring his side.. Can this be appealed? Also, should there be reprucussions for the judge for not recusing herself? I spoke with a different attorney who told me that she could be brought up on charges of judicial misconduct.
