Legal Question in Medical Leave in New York

I am the paternal aunt of six children who are currently in foster care in Brooklyn, NY. The children were removed from their paternal grandmother's home last year, due to lies and allegations made by the caseworker regarding maltreatment and abuse. This caseworker also alleged that I admitted to mistreating the children. I wrote Albany to complain about these lies and to request that the report be amended. Albany granted my request and amended the report. "I am no longer a subject in this matter". Now that my name is cleared I wish to seek custody of the children. This caseworker is doing everything in her power to keep the children away from their paternal relatives. I live in a studio apartment and I am willing to take 3 of the children who are in danger of being placed in another foster home because their current foster parent (maternal aunt) cannot continue to take care of them. I can provide food, clothing and shelter. Can I still seek custody? Does my living space prohibit me from obtaining custody? What steps can I take to get custody?
