Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Name Change for a Minor

Change of first name for my son, age 14. Born in NYC, now living in Paris, France. We are not sure at all on how to go about changing the name in the USA. He has an American passport that needs to be changed with the new name. Any help at all on this would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Re: Name Change for a Minor

If you need to physically do it in the US, and he is a citizen, you should go to the website for the NY couts and download the name chage forms (I think they are word or pdf). Bring the proceeding to legally change his name, then, once you have the judgment, get a new birth certificate and apply for a new passport.

The Court website is www.NYSUCS.com

Change the name in the Pais courts and then apply for a new passport under the new name.
