Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

I purchased my in-laws home 30+ years ago...in-laws held mortgage. Have document showing satisfaction of mortgage. Now some family members are harassing me and my wife on Facebook and through email at home and at work because they're not happy about the transaction. Do I have any recourse to stop the harassment?

You could start by telling them to cease contact with you. Then you could block them on Facebook and label their email 'spam' so you don't have to read their missives. Beyond that, a continuous pattern of unwanted contact could constitute harassment and subject them to criminal sanctions.

Good luck!

Disparaging one's character and honesty without proof and false accusations can be an actionable tort as defamation of character. You may threaten a lawsuit if they do not cease and desist from disseminating false accusations.
