My gf is born in northern ireland and I am born in chicago, Illnois my question is how long would the process be to get a person from the uk to the united states. And what has to be done

It is unclear under which status you would like to get your girlfriend to the United States, right now as a fiance or after marriage as a spouse. For fiance, you would need apply for K-1 visa. For spouse, you would need to apply for K-3 visa.
