Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

adoption & time off

My husband & I have been trying to adopt since 2002. I started a new job & during the interview informed them we were involved with classes & are in process of trying to adopt through a county Department of Social Services Foster Care program. My employer seemed ok and even gave info about paid time off/adoption leave. Now I am having diffiuclty scheduling Home Study with the adoption agency as my employer (same person I interviewed with) unwilling to give time off even though I'll have sick and vacation days after 90 days. I've even offered to work around time. Can employer indicate I have to chose between job and adoption?

Re: adoption & time off

I would suggest that you ask the NY Division of Human Rights at www.NYSDHR.org about this. It sounds as if it may be discrimination.
