being fired without an explanation-is there any recourse?

any legal action to be taken after being dismissed without a reason after years of service as an emplyee for a chain store

No, unless you had a contract with your employer, New York is an employment-at-will state which allows your employer to fire you with or without cause and it allows an employee to quit at anytime for any reason.
