Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

I let my boyfriends mother rent a room in my home for 300$ a month. She paid for the first month and this month she has continually put it off. She doesnt work, She is on Social Security and is also expecting a settlement from that. She isnt staying at my house any longer but her belongings are still there, bed, dresser, clothes, pictures, documents, etc. Can I take her to small claims? There was only a verbal agreement and I have text messages of her saying she will pay me. I dont want to take her if they wont take it out of her income because I will never see it again and I dont want to waste anymore of my time or money? We are in New York. What should I do?
