The decision whether or not to settle a case belongs 100% to the client. A lawyer should be in consultation with the client before any settlement negotiations begin. A lawyer cannot settle a case without the client's authorization. If a client authorizes the attorney to settle a case and the other side agrees, the lawyer should notify the client immediately.
