Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York

taking blood pressure readings on employees in a manufacturing setting

My company sells first aid supplies and medical equipment. Our employees will ask to have their blood pressure taken when they don't feel good. Are we liable if we don't send them to the doctor if their pressure is high. No one is an EMT here

You should definately contact the risk manager at your professional liability insurance carrier and ask them that question.

If anyone in your company is holding themselves out as competent to administer a medical test, it is possible to incure liability for a failure to recommend further treatment when the test results so indicate. Be careful here. Best, M. E. Zuller
