It depends on what stage the case is at. Lawyers meet with the judge in the begining to set the discovery schedule such as your deposition and then at the end to discuss possible settlement or set a trial date.

Can't tell you about the job your lawyer's doing, good or not, but 2 years for an auto injury case is not an extraordinarily long amount of time in New York. Much depends on the position of the insurance company as well as your willingness to compromise.

Most likely yes. There are so many variables. The case seems to be be going quickly, even though it does not seem like it.

I agree with loeb that in a case arising from an automobile collision, the insurance company is the principle factor in determining the speed or a resolution. Some companies will almost never settle a case before the eve of trial. others are much more willing. This has almost nothing to do with the strength of your case or the gravity of your injuries but with internal company policy and economics.
