Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

What is the legal punishment for punishing someone?

My friend and I were in a club last week and we became drunk, the bouncer kicked us out of the club. We insisted to get back in again but the bouncer refused. We got into a big fight with him and we injured him, and the NYPD came right away. The bouncer filed a law suit against us. After spending the entire day in the police department, we finally met with the judge and the judge said that "the final hearing will be on Feb".

My lawyer said that worst case scnario would be (one year in prison). How true that is? And are there any further infomation I should know?

Please note that although we started the fight, the bouncer also caused injury to us.

P.S. we were drunk that we can't even remember hitting the bouncer, but the lawyer said that we caused an injury to him. It must be a minor injury (he is to big compared to us :p)

Intoxication is not a defense in NY unless you were not intoxicated of your own free will, the fact you sustained injuries as well is of no consequence if the individual was defending himself and had every legal right to do so.

As far as the one year, generally in suds cases with No priors and good representation there would not be any jail time in such a situation.
