Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Responsibility of partner for medical costs

I recently ended a 3+ yrs relationship. During that time I was diagnosed with herpes and genital warts from him. I found out he recently may have infected two other women on purpose. I wonder now if that isn't what he did to me as well. Would any of us have recourse for medical expenses from him ( the medication is about $350/mo.)plus blood tests, office calls etc. as well as the emotional toll it's taken knowing being with someone is quite limited and knowing he did this on purpose.

Re: Responsibility of partner for medical costs

If you can prove he knew of his condition and it is the cause of the illness you would be entitled to compensation. Another issue is whether he has assets to pay any judgment you may obtain.

Re: Responsibility of partner for medical costs

There are definitely grounds for civil action if he was aware or should have been aware of his condition and never informed you. The question becomes whether it would be worth it depending on if he has assets worth pursuing. If he acted with intent or reckless disregard he may be subject to criminal charges as well.
