Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Searching for a filed claim/suit

From the point of view of determining if the statute of limitation has been exceeded, is there an online source to check if a action/law suit has been filed. No papers have been served.

Thanks for you help.

Re: Searching for a filed claim/suit

yes it can be found and sometimes online depending on the county in which it is filed. Failing that it is usually pretty easy to call the county clerk and get the info you need. However, in NYS assuming you are talking about a State Supreme Court case the papers need to be served within 120 days of the filing. If not the case fades into oblivion. Let me know what county you are in and i will try to get the info on the clerks office.

The links page on my website can look up cases that have requested a judge but most counties do nothave a way to look up filings on line. Manhattan (NY County) and Brooklyn (Kings County) are exceptions.

You can contact this office just to check for you, but an further work would need an agreement.
