Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Is there a comparable law to the warranty of habitability for homeowners ? I share a driveway with an empty house that has been vacant for more than 10 years. The owner - also a contractor - has worked on this property on and off for years. My life has been turned upside down dealing with the mess they leave. He has NO permits to do this work. Lead paint removal, asbestos abatement, illegal wiring and plumbing are just some of the issues I have to deal with. Noise, language, pot smoking, and dirt are some of the minor issues.

I am an 82 year old great grandmother. Do I have any recourse ?

You should call the Queens boro office of the building department and advise them of the work being done. If that does not work, you can hire an attorney to sue them for maintaining a private and public nuisance.

I agree with Kevin: I would also suggest you look at the local Ordinances to see which are violated by the activity, including any that relate to property maintenance.
