Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

Landlord's bankrupcy

My landlord has filed for bankrupcy and He has since insisted on my paying him the rent in all cash. He just gave me an unsigned rent reciept and when I insisted a signed copy he gave me one for an incorrect amount. I have been told that he is doing that because he may not own the house. Do I need a lawyer to help me?

You have no obligation to pay rent in cash. If the landlord insists upon, he is doing something wrong, and you will be left holding the bag (which will be empty if you have to pay rent a second time.)Write a check.
